Friends closest, frienemy closer.
A week ago, we are preparing our group project which is related to our monologue. At first, we chose among 8 monologue and see which one is more related to you or you like the most. We found it and used our emotions to recite the feelings that the character have. From that point, we tried to understand the personality of each character in the monologue. Ms. Guarino told us to make a plot based on the character’s personality and overall traits. Me, my character is a shy, polite and sensitive person. She doesn’t want to interact with other people unless that person comes to her and says hi to her. However, when someone is nice to her, she will see that, and being nice to others in return. She is a nice person that hardly refuse her friends' requests. Also, she was encountering some difficulties. Her dad didn’t come to the game that he supposedly need to come. Nicole is so mad at him, and almost couldn't accept him in some way. Moreover, I still have some weakness in the scene. In the beginning of the show, I was angry, but I didn’t express it with a loud and clear voice when I heard the video. People might hear certain words or so. In order to work on that, I should ensure that I pronounce every word clearly even I was angry or sad. Also, I should be more resistant when Jenna talks to me. I should say I am in a bad mood, so leave me alone. I don't want to talk to anyone for now. Her dad didn't show up, so she was upset, and that’s reasonable for not talking to people around her. In addition, I should not laugh or smile in the play. That’s a big problem for me; sometimes, I found that something is funny, so I kept laughing and couldn't stop. However, I need to control it when I was on stage because the actor in the scene should not laugh. I pulled out a devising theatre blocking to our group. They used several movements to interact with their groups and partners. Ms. Guarino suggested that we should do some movement to form our character as well. Think about the personality of your character, and express it with some movements. So we can get an idea or acknowledge how we can do on stage with the emotions we use in the movement. I think the blocking or no talking acting is a great way to let us concede the emotions or which feelings should we use. I also express the sadness that my character will do, and display it on the stage. To make it better, I should remember all the mistakes I made and assure that I will not do it again in the future. Maybe write it down with what is my mistakes are, and remark them in the highlight, also provide some ways or methods that can avoid the my mistakes happen again. I should keep my loud and clear voice from the start to the end, and I should be more resistant to people who want to talk to me, such as I refuse them right away. Make sure that I would not laugh on stage, maybe be more serious and strain myself in some way.
