Costume and Makeup

Roman Masks Theatre: Played an important role in the play and in the theatre, it usually covered people’s faces including their hairs and beards. The materials was cheap and the weight was light, it was made of linen, cork and woods. People usually had holes in their mouths and eyes parts. People wanted to invent this because it can exaggerate the emotions of the character by just using masks, it can let the audiences clearly knew their feelings by looking at their masks, so it’s easier. The masks also amplified the voice of the characters, so it could let people to hear him. The have two types of forms, one was tragedy which people used pained, mournful masks to express, and another one was comedy which people used smile and leering masks to convey. Females and males had different colors of masks while males had brown color masks and females had white color masks.

Greek: People wanted to express their religious ritual in the fifth century, so they invented the masks to perform.
