Interesting theatre tradition
In the beginning, we had a list of different theatre traditions from all over the world in which located in different areas. Through looking at the pictures and basic information, we acknowledge a large amount of them. Myself, I search a lot about the traditions that I am extremely interested in. While I am interested in doing different kinds of the theatre traditions. Some of them are really attractive and fascinating because of the culture. At first, I am thinking about doing either Talchum dance or Cantonese Opera because those are kind of related back to my culture-Asian culture. Also, it will be easier to understand what’s the meaning behind it. In Talchum Dance, it was performed by women, and they wear special Korean clothing to dance in front of audiences. Also, they often wear masks to cover up their faces so it will be easier to convey their dance. I saw the video, thinking that it would be interesting to do these. However, I will be more interested in doing Cantonese Opera. The reason is I am from Shenzhen, Guangdong which is a place that is close to the culture of Cantonese Opera, and also the culture is closely connected to our life. Those places have a higher percentage of speaking Cantonese so it would be easier for me to imitate or study the language of Cantonese, speaking or performing to the audiences. However, the point is I seldom speak Cantonese, so I don’t have much experience of speaking it. As a result, I want to try if I can speak it in front of you guys. Also, the makeup for Cantonese is impressive. I have a huge inclination toward Cantonese makeup. People also dressed in different cloth to perform on stage. Interestingly, this represents varied voice level that you are singing for. However, I haven’t searched for the tradition or why the actors want to paint their faces into the red. Or is there any relation between the governmental issues? Moreover, I want to know about my country’s culture and how the Opera spread over the country, so it finalizes as the nationalism in which I, myself, represents the culture I am in, and present the culture I am in. I want to see more about the amazing culture which is my culture. Furthermore, the voice in Cantonese Opera is rather interesting. Actors should sing with the music behind them, and I have heard that because of the requirement for special voice, the actors who are in the Opera are really versatile in all different aspect. It is difficult for young teenagers to participate in such event because of the harsh requirement, so I wonder if I could be part of the group.
