Reflection on the Videos

Personally, I think every culture has its unique and special beauty, so I just want to do many of them in one big presentation. While that is not the case, we have to choose one that we really interested in which appears on the list of the paper. Then, we are going to make a huge presentation about that culture, because of the fact that we have no idea what should our presentation be like when we send presentation and the video to the IB, Ms. Guarino showed us some examples what the IB will be expected or unexpected.
The first one we saw is a boy who is doing the Punch and Judy. When he first appears with only him on the seat and there is no laptop, no google slide or Prezi, I think he will screw this up because he seems like he didn’t prepare anything, yet his presentation is impressive and I could never forget about his presentation. He sits confidently in there and holds lots of paper in his hand. Afterward, he starts to introduce the culture Punch and Judy to us. He says because of the government thinks the performance is too violent, so they decided to shut it down for a while, yet he feels pity for this culture; he thinks this culture is amazing and people should obviously make it successful. It represents a place’s culture and belief. From his presentation, I have learned that some people wanted to talk about the social issues that happened in the city, so they think of the Punch and Judy, showing them on the stage. The purpose is to criticize and ironic the corruption of the government. However, as it grows rapidly, more and more kids were watching this as a violent show in the society. More often, in his performance, he also talks about the two different character in the show. He imitates the puppeteers and tries with his own voice, but talk like a devil. This is really brilliant because this represents that he actually learning from the Punch and Judy in his own interest.
The second one that I like is a girl who is presenting Talchum Dance Theatre, originated in Korea, wearing a different traditional dress and dancing around on the stage. She talks about when the Talchum Dance is originated, and why the culture is important in that country. She actually explains it really well to the audience that the time and different types of Talchum Dance. Also, she is from Korea, so she consolidates the basic history really well. The Talchum Dance was first in small villages that people wanted to do this because of religious purpose, but then people started to create an array of stories. Afterward, people wanted to use it to satire to the government or the nobility in the society in which they held so much power on their hands that normal civilians couldn’t have it, and the people wanted to embody this specific point to warn the audiences in some way. She then introduces some different kinds of roles in the dance movement. She imitates a small character in this dance, and breaks every part up, explains the usefulness of each dancing movement. For example, this part represents the character resents the government's corruption. This showed the audiences with clearly details and minds. Afterward, she put it all together. This really helped the audiences to comprehend the dance moves and then watch the overall so they will realize it.

These two presentations are both talking about the political and social issues of their country and these two gave me the biggest impression, so I wanted to emphasize these two. These two presentations lead me through of the difficulties that I am thinking about, and they give us a way to think, to elaborate our performances into the concise but useful presentation and performances like I should obviously show varied voices represent different tones, genders, mood...etc. Also, I will talk about the concept and what does this sentences or movement shown in this part of the performances.
