My proposal

I will do the Glass Menagerie as my proposed project because I know this pretty well based on my Lit & Performance class. We read this all through both in the class and in our own, explaining all the terms and themes in the Glass Menagerie. The book highly focuses on the family issues that they had. Tom, as the narrator, is the youngest brother in the Glass Menagerie. He is the one who has a huge burden on his shoulders; he has to work for the family in order to support the economy of the family due to the left of the dad. Yet, he wants to shout out for his freedom. Amanda, the mom in this book, is a commanding and annoying character in this play. She always forces her children to do things that they don’t want. She makes her son work at the warehouse, but her son is eager about writing books and literature. Nevertheless, she suppressed her son for support. Another character in this play will be Laura. She is a quiet sister in the book while facing both mentally and physically disorders. She is a shy and lives in her own world character. Based on this personality I described, I am familiar with the story, the plot and the conflict among the three characters. Moreover, in that class, we have been working to present and act our scene out in the black box. To be able to grab all the personality and show it to the audiences, we acknowledge and analyze the entire script. This further proves that I am more enough to familiar with the Glass Menagerie.

I want to choose two scenes to perform the conflict between Tom and Amanda, also I want to portray the ugliness of Amanda. The first part I want to emphasize is the part that Amanda and Tom are fighting against in the middle part, caused Tom to leave the house. Another scene is when Amanda and Tom are trying to find the gentleman caller for Laura. It actually emphasizes that Amanda wants her daughter to meet a stranger; the eagerness pressed her personality, only wants the house has a steady income. Even Laura is so shy and nervous, she still forces Tom to invite a gentleman caller for the economical but not for emotional. At my Lit & Performance class, I really want to do these scenes, but nobody was into it.  As a result, to complete my goal and establish the annoyance of Amanda. I would like to try these two scenes. Also, I think I didn’t do that well of establishing the tech in the Lit & Performances class, so I want to improve my understanding of establishing the technical theatre. The sound, the light, and the costume can be more developed through the teaching of technical theatre. Furthermore, this is kind of interesting to do because I have done this one or two months ago, to see if I can come to an end and develop this as my final project. For example, the light and sound will be more important in this theatre. By having a deep understanding of the light and sound, maybe when Amanda is fighting to Tom, the music will have a more keenness and aggressive. But when they are speaking about Laura, the music will rather be soft, but have a tricky sound.
