Theatre in Practice: Technical theatre
Unit 144: Using Music
Music is really important in the play because it plays a vital role. It creates an atmosphere to the action. For example, directors can decide the music throughout the play in order to support the atmosphere and tone you want to convey to the audiences. For example, they can think about the beginning of the play, what is the beginning be like, sad, happy, frustrated, overwhelmed. It all can be decided with music. Moreover, decide if the character needs a certain music in the play. His emotion and motivation can be added to the music. Also, if there is no dialogue but actions, directors can add some music to it just to help the audiences communicate with the play.
Unit 146: Designing the Set
The set is another way to communicate with the audiences about the story and the plot and background. The set should fit the style of the play: the time period, your own style. It’s important for the directors to remember the essence or the themes in the play so it would be easier to design the set, and expressing the feelings. For example, in the Les Mis, the garden and the bridge scenery create two different feelings. Thinking about the inequality, it always happened in the bridge scene. While the garden has a more beautiful meaning.
Unit 147: Special Effects
I believe the special effects here are the high tech products such as the projectors for projecting some of the background scenes. The director should think how they can enhance the story by puting projectors. Also, how the director use video to project images on the space.
Unit 148: The Tech
The light and sound cues are especially important. The tech should prepare all light and sound cus before the technical rehearsal. The director should give the full script of the entire play, and for each change, people should highlight so they could remember and familiar with it. The tech group should collect all the sound cues in a CDs so they can be ready to play the sound in the play. Also, have the light positioned before the actors came out. Starting at the beginning of the play and run from cue to cue, with all the actors in the spot. If the director has a complicated script and interpretation, it should allow the light and sound prepare for a couple times.
All the things talking above was to improve the storytelling in the play. How could the director do to actually improve it with lights, sounds, projectors, and the tech.
