Reflection to Workshop
The Workshop from Sunday was fun and meaningful. At first, I felt that maybe we should create something on our own, so I have been really nervous about it. However, when I saw the participants were all acquaintance, I wasn't that nervous as before. We did a lot of activities as we go through: doing warmups, reading lines, creating our actions based on the emotions, building larger scenes.
In the beginning, we did some jogging, in which we should run around the notice the space around us. As we jogged, I become more familiar with the stage and maybe I become more active on the stage, saying Ha, or Ka on the stage.
After that, we gathered around and summarized ideas about the two stories we read. I think Ben and Steve actually let us open our minds more. When they said we can write whatever we want to illustrate the story; like what do we think of when we saw the stories. He then said it can be anything including five senses, touching, smelling, hearing, tasting. When we saw the scene, what does first thing come to your mind? As he pointed out the ideas, I suddenly have some clues about mine. When I saw the mouse and cat, the thing that I can think of is Tom and Jerry, maybe the trap: cheese. When I saw the office, I can smell the coffee, which leads to the dreary jobs in the bureau. Also, we, as a group, share a lot of ideas as well. Many people come up with the ideas of hopelessness as it can appear in both stories. This activity is rather inspiring for more ideas.
Then, we did more movements, choreography, as we form partners to create dances or movements. As one person did one static movement, the other will respond to her movement, but with another static movement. Count from one to ten, we put it as a form of dancing. I felt like it's kind of fun and interesting as we work alone with our partners.
For my favorite part, I like creating impossible stage directions. I personally like my impossible directions really much because I establish a theme of fear, a theme comes from one of the stories we read. Also, because we did a lot of partner and relationship with one another. I feel like mine is pretty awesome. Hah. From the experience, I have a sense of creativity and collaborations.
