Reflective Post

In our performance, we adopted an artwork into a theatre production; the feelings for me is strange and exciting since I have never had this kind of experience before: based on an artwork to create another devised production. Within investigation and practice, our production, all in all, is pretty good.
In our previous production, we had three characters, Helen's character as an early adult (20s) in college; her job is a manager at a souvenir shop, successful(at first), but fails with her roommate leaves. Her characteristic is positive, emotional, seeking for future...etc. Other characters are played by Jenna, in which one was my roommate and one was my client from the shop. However, we looked at this piece, thinking this might be too complicated and hard to differentiate for the audience. Moreover, we have too much time on the production so that this emphasize we have less moving around. As a result, we revised this to make it better not only for the audience to understand, but also to make it shorter.
In this performance, we eliminated the character of the customer, so that it will be less confusing. As we delete the character's plot and everything, we then think of a way that makes the roommate and my character to know each other well, so we create the first scene to build up the relationship between me and Jenna.
The strength is that we have the basic idea down; the idea is about having just two characters interacted with each other. We finally decided to have two characters, and I think the argument is pretty good since everyone has different thoughts about the future and belonging jobs. As a result, our argument is strong and realistic in real life. Moreover, we had most of our lines down, but still, I am not well prepared at all; Sometimes, Jenna has to remind me about my lines. Talking about acting, I acted Lucretia as a silent and patient character, in which when she first met Jess in the shop, she is shy to talk to her. For example, I showed it as I clear the table and lower my head to show my shyness. Also, when she asked what's my name, I frown my forehead to show my unwillingness to say my name: further illustrate my shyness. However, as I talked to her longer, I found that she is interesting. As a result, I accept her request of going to one of her concerts. However, my character also changes; the shyness suddenly disappear as the second scene comes, I acted as an emotional adult, accusing Jess of lying to me about going to do the music staff since my character valued the job as the main goal in life. And there comes our conflict, my opinion vs. her opinion about working, but we then find a workable way to solve it. The two personalities of my character jotted down clearly.
The weakness is that we have too little physical movement in our performance, so it seems mostly wordy; we didn't add many actions and movement in our scenes, so we basically are standing there with only emotion. However, overall emotion was also based on our movement, so maybe, we should work more on the physical movement like what should our actions to be. Moreover, we have too little level to build on our argument. Sometimes, the anger just reaches to the top, but there is no reasonable explanation to say why is it like this. As a result, we must create a step on increasing our anger within small levels. For example, when I said, "did you just lie to me earlier?", I will be more on questionable attitude than straight to mad. As to build up an escalated emotion, I will become even more emotional impulsion. Furthermore, We should have more direct eye contact since we looked on the ground, and that will be hard for us to express our emotions through physical movement and facial expression. Our group needs to work on our lines since I constantly forgot my lines so that it will flow better.
